The Gates of Dusk by octane2 The Gates of Dusk by octane2
Lake Wanaka and its environs are like something out of a fantasy dreamscape.

I was on my way back from a tiring trek through Rob Roy Glacier, which was somewhat of a disappointment as there were very little photographic opportunities due to weather. When this fiery spectacle appeared before me, the disappointment of the uneventful and long day vanished in an instant.

An unexpected reward for a failure. Love it.

ari3ana3,

Thank you for the kind comment.

Yes, the camera has an ISO speed of up to 25,600. It's somewhat unusable at that speed, but, if you really need to get the shot, no matter what, you can.

It's simply the finest camera I've ever owned.

Thank you.

H

Matt,

Thanks! It was definitely one of the best sunsets I'd ever seen. Probably the best one I've ever seen in New Zealand (that I've managed to capture, anyway!).

Cheers.

what filters did you use on this one, if any?

Jno-J,

Thanks!

I used a 3-stop hard-step graduated neutral density filter, and a circular polariser to minimise glare on the water.

ShatteredSwords,

Thank you so much.

You're right about the balance, I think. It's something which I haven't really hit in my other images, but, I feel the exposure has been well controlled here.

Thanks!

H
