The Cloud Piercer Rests by octane2 The Cloud Piercer Rests by octane2

Aoraki the Cloud Piercer (Mount Cook) imaged moments after the sun had set off the west coast of New Zealand. You can see the last light illuminating the top third of Aoraki.

I have never scampered up a mound or a hill composed of loose morraine as fast as I did this evening in the freezing cold to capture the last few rays of light bathing this almost mythical place.

Aoraki is the tallest mountain in New Zealand, standing about 3.8 km tall. I wish to climb it some day.

Hi!
In few month I'll go to new zealand for a 30days photo trip, i'm trying to see what are the best places to visit, and this certainly looks like a good one!

It would be great if you could tell me where you took this picture and if there's a difficult hike to be done to get there?
I'll go in NZ in septemer, hope not to find too much slow in the mountains!

Thanks in advance,
Niccolò Bonfadini

Justeline,

Thank you, dear!

Watching the sun set (and rise ;)) there is something I will never forget.

By the way, I note your Prisoners of the Dusk image is highly rated over at POTY.

I've entered a few images, but, am unlikely to get anywhere.

I wish you all the best!

Regards,
Humayun

hey Humayun, thanks for telling me, just checked and realized it's in the top 10 (or 5)! That doesn't mean it's gonna be shortlisted though, just keeping my fingers crossed, it's the first time I mastered up the courage to take part in an international contest!

Take care my friend and many thanks once again :)

Justeline,

You're not going to believe this. I got an email from POTY2010 this morning say that this very image has been pre-selected for judging! I can't believe it!

They've asked for a high-resolution image to be uploaded in place of the low-resolution I have there at the moment.

To say that I'm stoked would be an understatement. Wow!

I hope you got some good news, too -- your entries are more than worthy!

Regards,
Humayun

wow Humayun, I really have to thank you for that comment although very belatedly. When I read it I went to check my mail and found the mails asking for high res images...IN MY JUNK! I normally never check my junk and they would have been lost if it weren't for your note! Congratulations for your success too and once again huge thanks for the notice!

I like the warm colors on the tip of the mountain. The foreground is nice and sharp. Some of the bright blue spots on the mountain sides look a little artificial.
