As per the norm, save your retinas: click here for a version on a black background, where you'll see shadow detail that us landscape photographers strive so hard to achieve, but, are then let down by garish colour schemes on sites such as this one with retina-burning bright backgrounds.

I didn't plan on writing anything, however of the endless stream of ocean side pictures this one stands out a bit. The light of the sun seems different, and I like it. The blur of the water feels just right. The sharpness of the land is supurb. The angles, pull me into the image. The way the image is composed just works for me. To me it is the kind of image I might hang in a hallway at work, properly framed. But it is not intresting enough that I would hang it in my house....thoght the quality certianly meets what I love for a screen saver.
The vibrant colors of this piece were what initially caught my eye which is strange given that at second glance "A Token for an Empress" is largely monochromatic. It is impressive how colorful a single color can be when captured by a quality photographer. It takes a great deal of subtlety to work with different shades instead of different colors. And with this subtlety you create something so bold.
Contradiction is the theme of this photograph from the aforementioned camera work to the stillness of the tide pools counterbalanced by the crashing surf beyond. Well done!
